Can an 'Application Specific Sidechain' or Dapp work for Bitcoin or is this specific to Etherium?

With ERC20 Tokens we hear the term Dapp nearly every day - and because this is a 'sidechain' could we use Dapp's for Bitcoin?

Well actually there are dApps and Colored Coins working on bitcoin blockchain so it is possible, with Ethereum it is just much easier since Ethereum was designed with programmability in mind while Bitcoin hass been designed as a currenncy

I thought about that fact before asking as well- Programmability and Currency being primary to each one- thank you adamskrodzki for hitting that properly!

I think to have read that it is possible but not the most efficient way, for Dapps to work well you need a smart contract system, at the moment i think ethereum is the way to go for Dapps, i will search for the link to the discussion i’ve read about this

This should (partially?) answer your question

Bitcoin doesn't have the same capabilities for smart contracts as Ethereum does, so we won't see anything like this, but there is side/off chaining, such as Lightning Network.
