Well, taking the fact that cryptocurrencies are so volatile, you'll never be sure about the investment. You can loose 25% in one day, though having a 100% winings 1 week after.

Anyway, my suggestion is to invest in top50 cryptocurrencies having a strong roadmap and serious background. Ethereum, Neo and Stellar would be my first picks. Afterwards, bitcoin ( cause it is the godfather ) and monero due to its privacy. Also, IOTA and Cardano provides new features to blockchain and that could be good in future.

So, here is my list:

Ethereum: 25%
Neo: 15%
Stellar: 15%
Bitcoin: 15%
Monero: 10 %
IOTA: 10 %
Cardano: 10 %

Ethereum seems the best choice and it could take bitcoin position in the market. At the same time, bitcoin is implementing lightning network which gives Btc more odds to be accepted for so many people.

The way i go about it, is regardless of the amount,
try to treat it as your first, single investment into complementary "areas".
ofc, cryptos are all complementary in someway,
but it's a great way to conceptually separate your investments into "sub" areas.
or in other words :
going all in, with a small amount, on a specific coin-tech that you like.
your portfolio will build itself from these small, done over time, moves.

that being said, if you really plan to only ever put 1000$.
i would say just buy 2 eth. :)

The number one golden rule is to do your own research, so any suggestions you read here, follow up by reading whitepapers, thinking about how the solution is going to play in the future, is the use case solid, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the project, etc.

That said, I will hypothetically spend your funds for you!

20% - Monero
20% - Ethereum
10% - IOTA
10% - Blocknet
10% - Airswap
10% - Gnosis
10% - Ethos
10% - Chainlink

This is a mix of tried and trusted projects, and ones with potential to grow a lot. They all have solid usecases, and use blockchain (or in the case of IOTA, DAG) to solve problems in their industry better than current solutions.

IF you want a tool to keep track of interesting ERC20 tokens, then I sggest checking out trivial.co - its a way to discover and research tokens, plus explore transaction history.

echoing thefuture0007's comment, 100% return with 25% drawdown is highly improbably in the crypto space. but if we're simply talking about allocations, assuming no active trading:
Wait till the ETH price direction clears up then ETH 100%, following which 50% into LOOM and 50% into another solid ICO project.

The value of cryptocurrencies changes very quickly. It's like investing in the stock market. You have to look at the investment constantly.

I haven't seen in this thread, but you can consider the other investment option in cryptocurrencies: mining.

I think mining will always be necessary while the price of currency will be whatever the market wants it to be.

A poor example:

If you invest 1000 on Bitcoin you have 0.1 BTC now.
If you invest 1000 in Bitcoin mining, you may have 1 BTC in one or two years.

As an example, take a look at Hashflare. You can mine Ethereum and others too.

If you are looking to double in one year, you most likely just need to make sure you pick any decent coins and there are so many of them. OR the whole market could sink lower and lower til 2020 for all we know. A lot of it will depend on the price of Bitcoin.

(not financial advice. hot coffee is hot)

I think a lot of that bitcoin dominance is going to spread to the Dapps platforms that are catching up to Etherium. Out of those, I like Neo and EOS because their developers seem to really know what they are doing and have a long term vision, there are also Stellar, Cardano and Icon which look like they are all going to stay in/near the top 10 but which I don't know as much about. Just to add some variety, Omisego is poised to do well as they may be the first accessible decentralized exchange and they are an established company already. Binance is killing it too.

There are a lot of other really great tokens/coins that have a much greater potential for reward but they are all much higher risk so I won't go into those. I personally love Steem because it has allowed me to earn crypto through writing despite not have any money to invest and I think they have a bright future as well.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but to manage your risk you should do the following.

  1. 60% of the top players, good reward lowest risk, (I'd stick with BTC, LTC, or ETH)

  2. 30% Large Market Caps, more reward less risk, (Anything in top 100. EOS, Dash, Ark, Basic Attention Coin, Substratum, Maid Safe Coin) Good Mix of coins that had hype, but have been forgotten and newer coins that seem to be gaining some momentum on the hype train. Any coin in the top 100 in Coin Market Cap

  3. 10# Smaller Market caps, Highest reward and Highest risk, (Civic, Po.et, Crypto 20, district0x, LBRY Credits, Patientory)

Just an FYI the examples I gave are the ones I'm invested in so DYOR. I wouldn't invest in more than 10 coins with 5 - 10 to be a good range to stay within.

As a long time investor in Stocks, Options, Futures, Forex and now Cryptocurrency...I think you need to recalibrate your expectations.

While it has happened in the crypto space more often than not...going into this with a 100% upside with a 25% drawdown is not something you should expect.

Instead of asking, my recommendation is to research some of the tokens/coins you are interested in and invest in the top 5 you think will solve whatever problem they are proposing to solve.

Appreciate your concern.

1. This is a hypothetical goal, not my expectations...

My original question was meant to test the quality of answers on delegates call because I was fascinated that it's a decentralized application with aligned incentives.

2. I'm crowdsourcing my research but appreciate your insight.

3. As a long time investor in Stocks, Options, etc. Which tokens do you think will solve problems?
Specifically my problem of wanting double the buying power one year from now?
